Invest in the right heritage. The one with eternal benefits.

Ready:

“One generation will declare your works to the next and will proclaim your mighty acts. I will speak of your splendor and glorious majesty and your wondrous works.”Psalm 145:4-5

Set:

Perhaps you’ve heard of generational fandom: a sports heritage, inherited fandom, or just a simple family sports tradition. Families pass down sports tradition and fandom through parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings. Down the road from me are diehard Alabama fans. They eat, breathe and sleep Alabama. It started with the grandparents, then to the parents, then to the children and now the children are dressing their babies in Alabama gear. The first thing a diehard sports fan and proud dad of an infant does is deck their baby out with a onesie and booties with their favorite team’s name on the front. It’s tradition! It’s a heritage!!

While we jump at introducing our children to our life-long team and make time for the games and give them our undivided attention, we are too busy to worship the Creator of the Universe. Sometimes we relegate the faith formation of our children to their Sunday school teacher or Youth Group leader. As James said, my brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so. So let’s make a change.

Let’s have a generational faith. Let’s pass down a strong faith that declares God’s works to the next generation and proclaims His mighty acts. Let’s speak of His splendor and glorious majesty and His wondrous works. Let’s choose to be diehard Christians who care about the spiritual legacy they leave behind. Because one day, there will be an end to the collegiate and professional teams we spend all our time and money on, but our souls live forever either in life or death.

While our favorite time has no clue who we are, there is God who knit you together in your mother’s womb. God who lovingly keeps His eye on your family, working together bad things for the good of His people. The God who gave everything to save you from an eternity separated from Him and saved you for a wonderfully fulfilling relationship with Him.

With sports, you’re worshiping someone who will never know your name or care about your family. With God, you’re worshiping the One who blessed you with your family in the first place. You get to choose what you declare to the next generation. Choose wisely.

Go:

  1. What are you worshiping and declaring to your family and the next generation?

Workout:

Deuteronomio 6:4-9

Overtime:

“Dear Heavenly Father, You deserve all of my praise. Your majesty and glory are worthy of being spoken of to my generation, the one before me and the one behind me. Help me to speak it. Please forgive me for making much of the things of this world while not making much of You and who You are and what You have done. Right now I want to meditate on Your splendor and glorious majesty. Thank You for Your wondrous works.”
