Ready:
“Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” —Galates 6:9
Set:
It’s common for athletes to be called out for mistakes or weaknesses. It’s part of the game. But, when coaches emphasize these too much it diminishes confidence and effort.
One of the great things about God is that He knows us and understands us. He is for us and not against us. He knows the weaknesses we face. When we struggle and face difficult things, when we make mistakes, He is right there with us to help us. He doesn’t call out the mistake or weaknesses and condemn us for them. He is a kind, gracious, merciful Father and God. Paul writes to the Galatians (and us) to give them some encouragement of what to do when criticism and hard things abound. He tells us to keep doing the right things. There is a good result, no matter how long it takes, when we stay the course and we keep doing the right things. Keep working hard in the midst of hard times.
The verse also tells us to not grow tired of doing good. It is always easier to give up, to stop and quit when it gets hard. Sometimes we just want to try again later. It does seem that in the middle of difficulty that we get tired and weary. But Paul tells us to keep doing good because good is coming. He uses an agricultural term: reap. A farmer reaps when the crop is ready. We need to keep doing good until God tells us the time to harvest is here.
When you feel like the criticism is piling on, keep listening to the voice of God. Keep working hard and do the right things. Don’t give up. You will reap at the right time if you do not give up.
