The Best Teacher

Devotionals

21 mai 2026

God is the best teacher! From Him we learn all we need for a flourishing life.

Ready:

“I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel. Do not be like a horse or mule, without understanding, that must be controlled with bit and bridle or else it will not come near you.”Psalm 32:8-9

Set:

After every game there are locker room moments with the team and words from the coaches. These moments are sometimes filled with a lot of cheering, joy and high fives. Other times it is not like this at all. The coach’s words are intense. The team is silent. You’ve probably experienced both. Competition is a teacher.

God spoke a long time ago that He would instruct us, teach us and guide us in the path that we should go. In all the moments of our day and competition, God is right there with us to give us this kind of help. Just like every game is a teacher, every day, God is our Teacher. He is right beside us to help us see more accurately, listen better, make better decisions and to act more Christ-like in our behavior.

Psalm 32:8-9 lays out two options. In one option, we hear and heed the instruction He gives so we know where to go while God watches us. The other option compares us to a horse or a mule, an animal without understanding so a bridle and bit have to be placed in their mouth and on their head to control and direct them. In other words, don’t be ignorant and don’t refuse the teaching and guidance that comes from Him.

Competition is a teacher. From it we learn grit, strength and teamwork. God is the best teacher! From Him we learn all we need for a flourishing life.

Go:

  1. How often do you take time to learn from each game for the key lessons it teaches?

  2. What’s one big lesson you’ve learned recently? How are you implementing the learning into new situations?

  3. How can you learn from God? What habits can you start building to ensure you are learning from the best teacher?

Workout:

1 Pierre 5:7
Josué 1:6-9

Overtime:

“Lord God, thank You that You love me enough and care for me deeply that You give me clear instructions, guidance and counsel. You are the greatest Teacher and I choose to listen to You. Give me courage to follow You each day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."
