Rest for Strength

Devotionals

15 अक्टूबर 2026

Rest is required for athletes and coaches.

Ready:  “On the seventh day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for o it he rested from all his work of creation.” —उत्पत्ति 2:2-3

Set:

Coaches know that weight room workouts are critical to an athlete’s development, growth and success. Athletes need to do this if they expect to improve. Many teams have trainers who work individually with athletes in the weightroom. One of the core aspects of weight room workouts is the synchronizing of the workout routine. There are routines in the daily and weekly workouts. In the workout routine, there are periods of required rest. Muscles need periods of rest to repair and get stronger. It is not valuable to do the same workouts every day. There needs to be dedicated rest.

Even God, after He created the six days of creation stopped. He stopped to rest. He stopped to enjoy it all. There was so much enjoyment and satisfaction that He blessed the seventh day, and He made it holy and special.

Was God tired and worn out? Not at all! He knew that we, His highest creations, would be productive, creative and fruitful, and He wanted to ensure we stopped regularly to allow rest, joy, and fulfillment.

Even Jesus took regular times to rest. When working with the disciples, and the work was constant, He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while” (Mark 6:31). Doing your regular normal daily work, you must take the time to allow your heart, your mind and your hands to rest. At the deepest level, rest should draw us deeper and closer to God who created us.

There are two clear reasons to rest. One is to give yourself time to time to be refreshed and refreshed from hard work. The second reason is to give yourself the chance to get closer to God and enjoy fellowship and friendship with Him. Both bring you health and life.

Go:

  1. Do you take time to rest from your daily activities and work? What happens when you don’t take the time to stop and rest? Do you need to add rest into your daily activities?

  2. Have you taken the time to be alone with Jesus to find the deep friendship and rest you need for your whole life?

Overtime:

“Lord Jesus, there is so much that happens in every day. I feel the pressure to keep doing more, working out harder and practicing every day. I need rest. I come to You and I ask for rest. You are the Giver of rest, and I seek You for it. I know when I seek You, I will find rest. Give my body, mind and heart the rest and refreshment I need. Thank You for being the example of resting. In Your name I pray. Amen.”
