Filter What's Right

Our minds need filters to discern what's right.

Ready:

“We demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.”고린도후서 10:4-5

Set:

In football, the biggest plays often happen unexpectedly—a toe at the sideline, a hit across the middle, an extended arm at the goal line. In real time, it’s hard to be certain. That’s why football uses instant replay. When the call is close, officials don’t trust crowd noise or their own gut reactions. They stop the game, isolate the moment, review plays from several angles, and ask one question: Did this play meet the rule of the call? The louder the moment, the more intense the review.

Paul says our minds need the same filters. Pressure-packed moments don’t just test our bodies—they reveal our fitness to discern what’s right. Paul tells us to take captive every thought that “raises itself up against God’s rules.” The Greek words picture inflated thoughts that puff up their authority and compete against God’s rule. These thoughts don’t whisper. Instead, they shout: “Everyone saw it.” “You’re overthinking this.” “Just go with it.”

Paul’s command is clear: don’t react—review. To take thoughts captive we stop, examine, and submit them to God’s rules. This kind of discernment takes practice. Romans 12:2 calls for “transformation” that trains our minds to think differently. Mental fitness begins when we exercise thoughts to align with God’s wisdom and resist pressures that lift themselves against it. Over time, discerning truth becomes muscle memory.

Just because the crowd yells “Touchdown!” doesn’t mean the ball crossed the goal line. Accuracy isn’t about volume. Life gets loud. Peer pressure can be deafening. But noise levels don’t define what’s right—God does. That’s why His Spirit gives us spiritual “instant replay”:

  • God’s Word reveals truth — Do I know it?

  • Christ’s example models truth — Did Jesus show it?

  • Fellow believers reflect truth — Do Christians reveal it?

Mental fitness builds spiritual filters for applying God’s rules by God’s tools.

Go:

1. What was the loudest thought or voice pressuring you in a recent decision?  2. Accuracy isn’t about volume. Where do you feel the strongest pressure to obey the majority instead of God’s truth?

Workout:

잠언 11:3
마태복음 5:14-16

Overtime:

“My God and my Coach, pressure to follow others is suffocating. Drill me in Your truth. Build Spirit-filters and muscle memory in me. Surround me with mature believers who reveal your truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
