Ready:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks the door will be opened.” —Matthew 7:7-8
Set:
Most athletes and coaches have a big crazy unbelievable dream or goal. Every locker room has banners and statements on the walls or above the doorways encouraging athletes to go for it. The words potential, possibility and opportunity swirl around in athletes’ minds during practices and competition. Opportunity, possibly and potential await – we give our full unwavering commitment to it, and we take our best shots to attain the goal. Every athlete can strive to get stronger, better and faster. It takes good effort and grit to stay. The requirement is the continuation of hard work and keeping our eyes on the goal. Endurance is needed to stay at it for as long as it takes.
There is something amazing about God, who is our Heavenly Father. He actually wants us to excel and get better at who we are and what we do. He created us and gave us abilities and skills. He puts in front of us opportunities, possibilities and potential. As a creative Heavenly Father, He desires that we advance and multiply the abilities and skills He gave to us. He created us in His own image and likeness, with the command to let our light (life) shine. His big desire is that we become more and more like Him in all we say and do.
When Jesus was speaking to a large crowd, He declared what our Heavenly Father is like when we come to Him and ask about things. In Matthew 7:7-11 He said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
The Father wants to give us good things. Part of the asking comes from what He put in our heart.
