You have to know the basics in order to move forward.

Ready:

"Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.” —디모데후서 2:15

Set:

In sports, the first step is always learning the basics. Then you advance forward into harder and higher aspects of skills. Like Albert Einstein said, “life [sport] is like riding a bike, to keep your balance, you have to keep moving”. Riding a bike or dribbling a basketball or soccer ball, the saying is true. Once you have the skill, you use it again and again and then you keep moving to learn more and more.

In our relationship with Jesus, we too start with the basics and then keep moving forward. As Paul says to Timothy, be diligent. That means we have to keep practicing, never leaving the basics behind. The basics of faith are what keep us moving forward in our relationship.

What are the basics? Reading God’s Word, the Bible, and spending time in prayer are a solid foundation to build on. Then we can move to memorizing Scripture and not just reading the Bible but studying it. As we keep moving, we begin to spend more time listening during prayers than asking.

But no matter what, we always keep practicing. Being diligent in our faith practice will allow us to grow deeper and deeper in our relationship with Jesus.

Go:

  1. What are the fundamental aspects of your sport that you learned at the start, that you now don’t even think about?

  2. In your relationship with Jesus Christ, what fundamentals have you mastered that make all the difference for you?

Workout:

야고보서 1:12
베드로후서 1:10

Overtime:

“Lord Jesus, thank You for first showing me what the basics are to this journey with you. I now ask for Your help to master them, to show You and prove how much I love You and want to obey You. I want to be closer and stronger with You. I ask for Your help. In Your name I pray, amen.”
