Much of life feels like a recruiting event.

Ready:

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” —Gálatas 1:10

Set:

Every summer, athletes attend showcases, camps and recruiting events. The atmosphere changes as college coaches arrive. Every sprint seems more important. Every drill gets more scrutiny. Every mistake looms larger. Athletes naturally want to make a good impression. Someone important is evaluating them.

Athlete or not, most of life feels like a recruiting event. Every day someone seems to be evaluating your performance — coaches, teachers, friends, social media, colleges, even yourself. It's easy to believe your value depends on making the right impression. Jesus offers something radically different. Culture says, "Earn acceptance." Jesus says, "Live from acceptance." Nothing is more secure than belonging to Him.

What you treasure shapes who you are becoming. Little choices matter because they train faithfulness. Living from your God-given identity may carry a cost, but it also gives you the confidence to remain the same person wherever you go. These actions matter — but they are not auditions for God’s acceptance.

For a moment, think about all the people who evaluated Joseph in Egypt (Gen 37-45). His brothers rejected him. Potiphar tested him. Potiphar’s wife pressured him. The prison warden trusted him. Pharaoh promoted him. The nation embraced him. Every audience changed, but Joseph’s belonging did not. His identity was anchored in the God who was always with him (Gen 39:2, 21, 23). His confidence wasn't built on people's approval but on God's unchanging presence.

Walking with Jesus happens when we live from acceptance — instead of striving for acceptance. Tomorrow you'll face expectations, comparisons, opportunities, disappointments and conversations that quietly ask, "Who do you need to be today?" Whether you're in a classroom, at practice, at work or at home, every audience is different. You negotiate situations but not your identity. Your belonging in Christ is secure.

We don't live for God's acceptance. We live from it. We don't negotiate our identity because we don't need to negotiate our acceptance. Live from acceptance—not for acceptance.

Go:

  1. When are you most tempted to perform for acceptance?

  2. How does belonging to Christ change the way you face tomorrow's audiences?

Workout:

Romanos 8:15-16
Efésios 1:4-6

Overtime:

“My God and my Coach, thank You that I already belong to You through Christ. Teach me to live from Your acceptance instead of striving for the approval of others. Help me reflect Jesus wherever I go. Amen.”
