What is it about athletes that we believe in fairness to ourselves but not to our opponents? Why does every sport need referees, umpires, judges, and now even virtual assist? The bottom line for our sport is that there are rules and guidelines by which to play. These are to ensure fairness, safety and equal opportunity to compete. The underlying issue is we desire for the truth to be told. We rely on game officials and instant replay and technology to help us get to the truth.
Do you know who is 100% fair and truthful? Who doesn’t need instant replay or virtual assist? Jesus.
When Jesus came to the earth, His disciple John wrote, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (João 1:14). There was nothing fake, false or incomplete about Him. This makes everything Jesus said and did completely accurate and trustworthy. Later in João 14:6 Jesus said this about himself, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the truth. He not only speaks the truth, but He is the truth.
It is extremely important to Jesus that truth is known and practiced. Our own experiences and emotions can move us away from the truth, which makes it vital to align ourselves with the Person of truth, Jesus.
