A Humbled Account

Devotionals

Despite what it looks like; the rules do apply to everyone.

Ready:

“Why has the wicked person despised God? He says to himself, ‘You will not demand an account.’ But you yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into your hands. The helpless one entrusts himself to you; you are a helper of the fatherless.” – Psalm 10:13-14

Set:

We’ve all been around an athlete or coach that thinks the rules don’t apply to them; they tend to lack accountability and aren’t looking for any either. Sometimes it can look like they’re getting away with it, but God gives us two tender verses in Psalm 10 to remind us that He knows the heart of all, and He gives the final judgement.

The prideful coach or athlete might cut corners in practice and cheat during competition but in the end, his or her actions will be brought into account.

The truth is we will all give an account of our lives to the Creator. David says this conversation about God “not demanding an account” is happening within the wicked person’s heart. If we are wise, we will choose to look for application in these verses for ourselves. Jeremiah 17:9-10 reminds us that, “The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable- who can understand it? I, the LORD, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.”

If our heart is incurable and more deceitful than anything else, this means we CONTINUALLY need the transformation of God’s Word applied to our hearts and minds daily. Run toward accountability and entrust yourself to Him because He helps us.

Go:

  1. Take a deep look at yourself. Are there areas in your life where you act as if God won’t notice your choices or call you to account for them?

  2. What step of obedience do you need to make today to follow the conviction of the Holy Spirit?

Workout:

Послание римлянам 14:12
Послание Иакова 5:16

Overtime:

“Father, I know I am not sinless, and I can hurt others by my words, pride and actions. I pray that You will examine my heart and hold me accountable for my sin. I pray for strong conviction in the places where I have become passive towards Your Holy Spirit. Please forgive me for my wickedness and help me not to see others’ sin as more evil than my own. Restore my soul and guide me in paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Amen.”
