The LORD thinks much of you no matter what you think of yourself.

Ready:

“LORD, what is a human that you care for him, a son of man that you think of him?” —Psalm 144:3

Set:

Imagine you’re the weakest player on the team. You’re inexperienced, unathletic and barely made the team. Now imagine the star player with all the stats, records and highlight reels takes an interest in you. And not a fake, ingenuine interest that is just for looks but a true care for you, a true friendship. You become best friends, inseparable in fellowship.

The weaker athlete on the team might think the same words David said about his Lord. “Why in the world are you friends with me? What made you even think to talk to me in the first place and in the second place, continue a real relationship with me?”

The thing about the weaker athlete is that he or she doesn’t have anything to offer and yet the star player chooses them anyways. This is not about what the weaker athlete can offer, it’s about the character of the superior athlete. In our relationship with God, we don’t have anything to offer, and He knows that. That’s why He chooses us. When He chooses us, we receive what He is offering us, becoming relationally and spiritually rich in the blessing of His fellowship.

We might not think much of ourselves, but the LORD thinks much of us and with His redeeming love He makes us greater than we ever thought we could become. By grace we have been saved.

Go:

  1. How can you turn your smallness or weaknesses into a reason to praise God instead of feeling hopeless in yourself?

  2. How should God’s deep care for weak humans change how you treat those weaker than you on your team?

  3. Pick a new athlete on your team to genuinely befriend and influence them for the Kingdom of God.

Workout:

От Матфея 10:29-31
Psalm 56:8-11
Исаия 43:4

Overtime:

“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me despite my weaknesses and shortcomings. You, the Creator of the universe, care for me, a mere mortal. I stand with David in wondering why You love and care for us the way You do. Thank You for taking an interest in me, thank You for thinking of me with all that goes on in the world. I pray for conviction in treating others the way You treat me. Thank You for loving me so well. Amen.”
