Ready:
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” —Isaiah 40:28-31
Set:
It’s not new for people to find themselves in difficult places and hard circumstances that they struggle to get through. This has happened in every era since the beginning of time. During the times of Isaiah, the prophet, the people of God were in a tough place with hard circumstances. These difficulties had been happening for a long time and there didn’t seem to be any help or any change coming. The words of God through Isaiah to these people came at the right time. It starts with two questions, which is perfect for those struggling – “Have you not known? Have you not heard?”
These questions help raise the answer for us in our struggles. The answer is more than we know. The answer is the Lord, the everlasting eternal God. He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He never gets tired. Never gets worn out. He doesn’t stumble. He always has more than enough strength to help us. He always has perfect understanding, which is a big part to help us grasp what’s happening to us and around us. He knows we get weak and we stumble, trip and fall. This is where He gives us more than enough. More strength to get up and walk again. More strength to run again.
The one part for us to do is revealed in the word “wait”. Those who take the tiny thread of their lives and wrap it around the huge strong rope of God, they are the ones who become strong, because they are now part of the rope, no longer a thread. The power, strength and understanding of God is more than we know. Reach out to Him and let Him take you by the hand and lift you up, to be strong again.
