Set: The hardest part of baseball isn’t swinging — it’s deciding whether to swing. Pitchers disguise every pitch. Fastballs, curveballs, and sliders come out of the same arm slot, looking identical for a split second. Elite hitters train for those moments. They develop recognition by tracking release points and spin. They build awareness by reading counts and fatigue. They practice restraint by refusing to swing until it’s right.
Now imagine a 3–2 count. The pressure is on. The pitcher must throw a strike. You know the ball is coming into your zone, but not every strike is your pitch. Some are deceptive. Some look right but break late. Hitters wait. Ready to recognize and commit instantly.
Likewise, biblical “waiting” is focused readiness to respond. Waiting on God trains your heart to recognize His voice and follow His path.
Serving is how you prepare and what you choose under pressure. Joshua defines “who”, “We will serve the Lord.” David discerns “how”, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:7). Waiting quiets the noise and keeps you ready. The Holy Spirit readies us through Scripture by training us to recognize His voice, through prayer by aligning our hearts, and through fellowship by sharpening us with others.
These are daily reps. Scripture warns, “Hurry leads us astray…” (Proverbs 19:2). Faith refuses “haste” (Isaiah 28:16). Waiting slows the rush but sharpens the response. When pressure comes, you don’t chase what looks right or freeze in uncertainty. You recognize His voice… and step into His path. In that moment, the Holy Spirit brings clarity, turning preparation into direction.
Pressure demands decisions. It forces a choice. Which voice will you follow and which path will you take? Will you rush… stall… or respond? Great hitters execute their training. A hitter has milliseconds to judge pitches. There’s no time to figure them out in the moment. So don’t just wait, serve through focused readiness to hear His voice and trust His path. Waiting on God doesn’t delay decisions it prepares you to make them.
