Ready:
“First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for everyone.” — 1 Timothy 2:1
Set:
I remember stepping into a new role as head coach with a team that was both nervous and excited about the journey ahead. They worked hard through preseason and quickly embraced our system and culture. But everything changed the moment they walked into the locker room for our first home game.
One by one, they froze—jaws dropped, eyes wide. What caught their attention? In front of each locker sat a neatly folded uniform topped with a handwritten note. A simple message of thanks. A personal expression of gratitude for the effort they had invested.
I had spent hours writing those notes and praying over each uniform. My goal was to let them know they were valued—not just for their performance, but for their heart, their effort, and their belief in what we were building together. Their reaction was unforgettable. That moment reminded me that gratitude doesn’t have to be grand to be powerful. Sometimes, a few sincere words can leave a lasting impact.
Paul captured this beautifully in 1 Thessalonians 1:2–4: “We always thank God for all of you, making mention of you constantly in our prayers. We recall, in the presence of our God and Father, your work produced by faith, your labor motivated by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you.”
Paul’s words echo what I felt that day. He took time to acknowledge the faith, love and perseverance of the Thessalonian church—just as I wanted to affirm the commitment of my team. Encouragement has a way of transforming hearts, especially in those we lead.

Overtime:
“Father, may we lead like the Apostle Paul—with gratitude and grace—as we exhort and encourage others along the way. Open my eyes to see who I need to encourage today. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
