Ready:
“Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the LORD, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.” — Ezra 7:10

I have never seen so much confidence in what a coach says as when he or she speaks something from his or her life. We are often inspired by practical examples, not theoretical reflections on how to do something. A coach often and a leader in particular take something from their life and experience, share and help and lead their athletes or disciples in this way.
One of the wonderful examples before us is a great teacher of the Law of God — the priest Ezra. At the end of chapter 7, Ezra testifies that the hand of the Lord was upon him. He can confidently declare such a thing because of what he has focused on. He devoted his heart to study the Law, to do the Law and to teach others the Law
Three things are directed at himself: devoted, studied, and do. And only one thing is directed at others.
Dear coach or leader, how are you doing with these? Where have you committed your heart? What have you studied? Are you pursuing the Law of God?
The power of learning is in its personal practice and implementation. That looks like trying it yourself before asking someone else to do it. Or being genuine and not asking for someone to do something you have not and will not do yourself. Your actions should align with your words. That is exactly what Ezra did. That is why he was ready to teach! As a result of his commitment, the King of Kings blesses Ezra’s work. From a good root, the fruit will be beautiful.
Go:
Share where you dedicate your heart. What have you studied? Are you following the Law of God?
Is it worth teaching something that you yourself do not fully understand - and is it even possible to do so? What can this lead to?
What is God calling you to do through Ezra 7:10?

Overtime:
“Lord, allow me to understand You and Your Law more deeply to teach and pass on to others. Keep me and my heart pure to be a worthy teacher of Your Law. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
