It is likely that when you began to take your relationship seriously, you discussed some of life’s big questions, such as: Where do you want to live? How many children do you want? Would you consider adopting someday? These thoughts naturally arise when a couple begins to think about their future together. Because God created the family, keeping Him at the center of yours will help you reach the greater potential He is calling you to.
Home represents stability in many parts of the world. What makes a home stable is not what’s on the outside but what happens within the four walls. Although a house’s foundation is not visible, it is the most important part of the structure. The greater the depth of the foundation, the more stable the home. In Matthew 7:24–29, Jesus teaches that hearing and obeying His Word leads to greater potential for your family. As you seek His greater potential, make sure you create an environment that includes talking about God’s Word. This means your family values, family structure, and family goals should be centered around scripture. Living out your faith as a family, not just as an individual, can make a great impact for the Kingdom of Heaven.
In Ruth, we learn how the lineage of David and Jesus was preserved through the marriage of Ruth and Boaz and their commitment to their family. The land that God had promised the Hebrews was their inheritance, and each family treasured their property. It was important that a man’s legacy (his land) not be taken away, even after death. Although Naomi was trying to carry on her husband’s legacy, poverty threatened to take it away. But God provided just when the futures of both women appeared dire. When Boaz married Ruth, Naomi could reclaim her land through her new grandson. Her family legacy was preserved, and both women found a solid foundation for their future.
