Lasting Legacy

Devotionals

October 25, 2025

We all desire to be seen, heard and valued. The good news is God already chose us now we must build a legacy that points to Him.

Ready:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” -Ephesians 2:10

Set:

It is a great feeling after high school tryouts when you see your name posted because you were chosen to be on the varsity team. Or you get the call from the Board they would like to hire you as their head coach. We all have the deep desire to be seen, heard and valued, and when we are chosen for something or by someone, we feel that validation.

We find even better news when we understand we serve a God who chose us from the beginning. And if we were chosen by God, we were created by God to live in His love and do great things for Him.

When God chooses us to build something great with Him using the platform of sports two things happen.

1. Our gifts and talents are given to us not to build a pedestal for us but a platform for Him.

We live in a time where we think, “How can I get my name in the paper? How can I get my name out there for NIL deals? How can I boost my social media presence so that people will notice me?”

Instead, what if we used the game to share His light not just get the spotlight? What if we used the game to share His greatness instead of ours?

2. Our work may come through hands, but it doesn’t come from our hands.

Our gift to play or coach may go through our hands, but it doesn’t come from our hands. Everything we have been given has been given to us by God. And because of this, we don’t get the glory—God does. Not because He needs it, but because we can’t handle it.

I can’t help but believe that with the Spirit of God, you have been given great wisdom, ability and expertise (Exodus 31:2) in different ways, and we have a chance to build something great with the Lord. We serve a God who chose to come to this earth, die on the cross and be raised from the dead so that we could be reconciled with God.

Will we choose to follow Him and build a faith-filled legacy?

Go:

  1. How can you use the talents God has given you to give Him glory?

  2. What steps can you take today to start building a faith-filled legacy?

  3. Take a few moments to think on how God has gifted you and where He has put you on your team and make small steps to impact the people around you for a lasting, eternal legacy in Christ.

Workout:

Genesis 1:27
Exodus 35:30-31
Psalm 78:4

Overtime:

Father, thank You that You chose me before the beginning of the world, and that You made me in Your image and call me good. Let my identity sink into my heart as I think of how You have gifted me for impacting the world and loving You. I want to start building a lasting legacy with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
