The Faithfulness of God
Faithfulness is defined as the quality of being consistent in presence and performance. In sport and in life, consistency matters. Athletes know that the ability to show up strong and see it through to the end takes more than physical talent. Persistence, preparation, and focus support the body, mind, and soul in excelling in our chosen arena.
In life, God’s faithfulness is like that of a coach who never leaves. He is always present—guiding, leading, and pursuing you. God is faithful. His faithfulness is steadfast, and His presence remains through each calling. He speaks over our lives. Just as athletes rely on a coach to develop their skills, build stamina, and cultivate a healthy mindset, we can trust that God is actively at work in our lives—in every season and through every achievement and challenge.
In the Bible, faithfulness is reflected in the Savior’s reliability, trustworthiness, and steadfast loyalty and commitment. Through His own unwavering nature, God grants us the opportunity and ability to act consistently in alignment with our beliefs and His commands, even when difficulty arises. Our faithfulness to God is a demonstration of trust in Him through obedience to His Word.
What does it look like when we fail to make the shot, miss the wave, fail to land the trick, or miss the mark in a crucial moment in sport and life? It looks human—and most often messy. How does a faithful God respond when we are tired, injured, or discouraged? The faithfulness of God meets us in those moments.
Psalm 73:28 realigns us with the truth of who God is: “But as for me, God’s presence is my good. I have made the Lord God my refuge, so I can tell about all you do.”
His presence is called your good. God never misses. He is faithful in every moment of our lives. Yet take notice of your part—to actively make God your refuge. Why? So that you can tell others how God has been faithful in your life. The faithful nature of God grows in the fertile soil of your need and is designed to replicate and spill over into community.
