Discussion Questions:
What is your “in the beginning” in sports? What is your earliest memory of competing? Describe it.
As you discuss/reflect, consider how your beginning in sports has its ultimate origins in the God who created the world.
We’ve said that we want to focus on the biblical story and consider how to put our sports lives into that narrative. But there are false or incomplete stories about sports that can be powerful, too. They compete for our devotion, trying to shape our desires and imaginations when we engage in sports. Perhaps it’s a story about the need to prove our worth, or to accumulate possessions, or to seek revenge and prove the haters wrong. Take a few minutes and name and reflect on some of the common sports stories we see in the culture around us.
What steps are you taking to get to know the Creator? How has that helped you compete the way God intends?
