Anything an athlete or coach does, anywhere they go and anything they say, requires integrity. It’s easy to observe when integrity is present or when it is missing in others. It’s much harder to see integrity or a lack of it in ourselves. Integrity is much more than what happens in your heart and mind, it is also about what your words and actions.

Living a life of integrity is about being undivided internally and externally. Integrity is an internal wholeness that impacts everything externally. It’s a unity within one’s motives, attitudes, thoughts, words and actions. It’s about building a life, internally and externally, that revolves around trust and honesty. It’s a life that grows and advances in authenticity. Integrity is like a lighthouse up on a cliff shining bright light in the darkness, pointing ships toward safety, warning of rocks below. It is the guiding light in our lives.

King David wrote in both the Bible verses above that an undivided heart results in integrity of heart. When we have an undivided heart – one that is set on Jesus - we rely on Jesus’ faithfulness, His trustworthiness, His pure honesty, and authenticity. When we do that, we become more like Him. More like Him in our internal and external lives. Because there is real honesty and authenticity on the inside, we can speak and act the same on the outside.

We should live in integrity. Integrity should be the foundation of our lives. With it we build trust and authenticity in everything. Without it we can only be mediocre at best, and fake at worst.

Overtime

“Lord Jesus, I want to be more like You. I want to be a person of integrity. Help me know and understand how to be like this. I ask for help, wisdom, courage and peace. I look to You as my example. I will follow You. Thank You for being a great and perfect Savior and Friend. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
