“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.” — Philippians 2:3-4

It is obvious in the sports world which players and coaches are in it for themselves, and which ones are in it for the love of the sport and for the team. Swagger is one way to talk about how someone carries themselves. There are some players whose swagger is arrogant and self-serving. There’s no doubt where they stand. They make it known that they are number one, that no one is better, and that they are the measure and standard of greatness (at least in their own eyes). For some it’s attractive and for others it’s offensive. How many moments of trash talking and unsportsmanlike penalties come because of this self-centered swag?
There are other players though, whose swagger is a healthy one. They stand for the elevation of the team and for the team goals. It’s a healthy confidence that comes from knowing all the right things have been done. It is an attractive presentation that builds synergy and inclusiveness, rather that destroying team cohesion and being exclusive.
It's been an issue throughout centuries and time. People tend to naturally gravitate to selfishness, self-centeredness and self-advancement, at the cost of others. Jesus spoke about this issue. The greater part of His message is that He Himself came and demonstrated how to respond to and live with an others perspective.
Philippians 2:3-4 is one Scripture that give straightforward instruction – don’t do anything from selfish desires and actions. Don’t be conceited and self-centered. Instead, act humbly with people and view their needs and concerns over your own. You have interests and so do others. Consider their interests just as important and valuable as your own. It’s an accurate way to live out the Great Commandment to love others as you love yourself. The example of Jesus is extraordinary. It’s proof that His way is the higher better way, that serves others and helps them in their needs.

Overtime:
"Lord Jesus, thank You for being the perfect example of how to live life in seeing others first. I want to be less selfish, and to be more others focused. Help me know how to do this. I need power by Your Holy Spirit to lead this way. Forgive me for being selfish. I trust in You and will follow You in every way. In Your Name, Jesus. Amen."
