God positions the available for appointed moments.

Ready:

“...Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.”Esther 4:14

Set:

Brock Purdy knows what it’s like to be overlooked. Drafted last (#262) in the 2022 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, “Mr. Irrelevant” entered the league without hype or guarantees—just a clipboard, a playbook and a choice to stay ready. While others focused on depth charts, Purdy focused on preparation. He couldn’t control when—or if—his opportunity would come, but he could control his readiness.

That opportunity arrived suddenly in December 2022. With the team’s first- and second-string quarterbacks injured, Purdy stepped in as the starter on a playoff-bound team. He didn’t panic. He played calm, prepared and confident. His moment wasn’t accidental. It was appointed. Long before Purdy, a young woman named Esther found herself in a position she never planned or pursued. When the moment of decision arrived, her cousin Mordecai challenged her with the words of our verse for today.

The phrase “for such a time as this” (v'el-zman kazeh) points to an appointed moment—not random, not lucky, not accidental. Esther didn’t chase influence. God placed her where she was. When the moment came, her availability became her assignment. Though God’s name is never mentioned in the book of Esther, His fingerprints are everywhere—timing, placement and purpose. The same is true today. God positions the available for appointed moments.

Legendary coach John Wooden once said, “When opportunity comes, it’s too late to prepare.” Purdy and Esther understood that. They couldn’t control the timing—but they could be ready. God rarely announces moments in advance. He watches how we train, how we serve and how faithful we are where we are. Stay faithful in your role today—because when God opens the door, He calls the ones who were already ready.

Go:

  1. Brock Purdy couldn’t control when his opportunity came—but he could control his preparation. Right now, how are you preparing for God’s call?

  2. Can you identify one role—on your team, at school or at home—where God may be shaping you before revealing the purpose?

Workout:

Judges 4

Judges 5

Judges 6:11-24

Overtime:

“My Lord and my Coach, thank You for showing me that Your call requires my work. Let me obey and learn habits that prepare me for Your purpose and plan. Position me when You are ready. Amen.”
