Ready:
"I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” —Ephesians 3:16-17
Set:
In the game of hockey, a power play can be a great opportunity to create scoring opportunities or shift momentum. On the power play, one team has a player advantage. It could be a five on four for the duration of the penalty. In the National Hockey League (NHL) Alex Ovechkin, of the Washington Capitals, has scored 330 power play goals. He has the most ever in the NHL.
In our Christian life we should operate with a “power play” mentality. The Bible is really clear that God and His kingdom are not just talk and fluff but a Kingdom of power. It’s His divine power that gives us everything we need for life and godliness. It’s His gifting to us of His Spirit to give us strength on the inside of us. This power gives us what is needed to have proper motives, positive attitudes, healthy thinking and encouraging words. He gives us power and strength to become a growing maturing follower of Jesus. Jesus said apart from Him we can’t create nor have what it takes to grow and develop as a Christian. It’s His power that helps us when we are weak and discouraged. He grants us the strength we need to choose to do the right things. Choosing the right things helps us overcome the evil that is prevalent around us.
The true power play is Christ in us. That is where our strength comes from. When Christ dwells in your heart you have all the strength and power you need.
Go:
Have you been part of a power play or fast break and how did it affect your play and affect the game?
Do you know the power of God that is available every day and every moment to help you be strong and stand true in every temptation?
Who is with you to encourage you in your daily walk as a Christian?

Overtime:
“Heavenly Father, I often face struggles and temptations. It seems hard to stay pure and to do the right things. I need Your strength and power. Thank You that when I put my faith in You, You dwell in me. Thank You for loving me and helping me to be strong. I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
